Effective Communication During a Divorce
Hey guys, I’m Tulsa Fathers’ Rights Attorney Heath Davis. One of the things I wanted to talk to you about today is how do I effectively communicate with my wife or my soon-to-be wife or significant other? Communication is a tool or mechanism that the courts look very closely at to see what the candor is between the parties. Is there any animosity? And can both parties effectively communicate enough to effectuate custody and visitation rights between each other?
When you are texting with your spouse or soon-to-be spouse, it’s important to mitigate the temperature of what those communications are. So not engaging in any type of back and forth, any type of pettiness, and making sure that your communication centers directly around the minor children and their well-being. Your communication should simply be limited to their school activities, their extracurricular activities, their medical activities, and things of that nature.
Focus on the Kids
Anything beyond that, engaging in petty rhetoric with your spouse or ex-spouse, simply is not warranted at this point. Your sole focus needs to be your kids. Remember, the court is looking at your communication to see if you can effectively co-parent and prioritize the well-being of your children. Keeping communication respectful and child-focused is key during a divorce.
