An Attorney Strengthens Your Case
Video Transcribed: Hello, I’m Tulsa men’s attorney Jason Lile, and I am with Dads.Law. I wanted to talk to you today about what a good family law attorney and dad’s rights attorney can do for you and support your case by educating you, if you will, about how divorce can actually be good for your children.
Now, I know that is counterintuitive because obviously on its face, divorce is very destructive to children and everybody in the family, but in reality, many marriages and many partnerships, if they’re not married, are riddled with conflict.
Sometimes the police have been called, sometimes there’s been counseling over this conflict, sometimes there’s domestic violence or anything like that. Or even if it’s just that you don’t get along enough to stay together.
So one way that you can approach a divorce or separation, or a paternity suit, or whatever the case may be is to look at the situation and present your case to say, and in such a way, “That you’re showing the court or the opposing counsel that you should have sole legal custody or joint legal custody, and that will be better for your children because…” You’ve gotten them into counseling for example.
You’ve gone into counseling yourself. If DHS is involved and they’re worried about the volatility in the relationship, you can present and should present to DHS, that the volatility was exclusive to the relationship, and now that the relationship is over that’s dissipated and the children are no longer subject to that volatility.
In addition, you will find many times that after you are separated from the other party, when your children are with you or when your child is with you, you are able to focus on them in a way that you couldn’t focus on them before or maybe you just didn’t.
All of these things should go into consideration and be presented to the opposing counsel or the judge to let the judge know that you are fit for sole legal custody or joint legal custody, whichever your priority is, and whichever is appropriate for the case.
An experienced attorney should be able to integrate that information, not only into the case but also to pass it on to you, to help you guide your own behavior, such that you’re doing nothing but supporting and strengthening your case throughout it.
