It’s a Form
Video Transcribed: Hi, I’m your Tulsa fathers’ rights lawyer, here to answer some questions about fathers’ rights. Today, I’m going to be talking about the acknowledgment of paternity. What is an acknowledgment of paternity in Oklahoma? Well, in short, it’s a form. It’s a form that can be signed by both parties, which would presumptively establish the parentage of the child to that father.
This can be rebutted in court but requires your presence to do so and a genetic test. An acknowledgment of paternity can be used against you if you do not show up to court in order to establish child support in a DHS administrative court.
If you are going to be reaching a district court level, rather than the administrative court in order to establish custodial rights, an acknowledgment of paternity is a presumption of parentage, but you may still be required to conduct a genetic test in order to establish rights to that child. This has been a little bit about the acknowledgment of paternity. If you have questions, call a Tulsa paternity attorney at (918) 986-7724.
