Establishing Parentage Requires That You Go to a District Court
Video Transcribed: Hi, I’m I am a father’s rights lawyer in Oklahoma, here to talk to you a little bit about establishing paternity in Oklahoma. There are several forms that are signed, potentially on birth, at birth, like a birth certificate, or maybe even at a later date, like an acknowledgment of paternity, which would give a presumptive establishment of parentage.
However, these documents afford you no rights to your child. Rather, they can be used against you in order to establish child support in a DHS administrative court if you are not available to attend and participate in the hearing.
Establishing parentage requires that you go to a district court in the county of the child’s residence. Period. At that time, you can request the genetic test in order to ensure you are the child’s father before you are established as the parent and take on all of the rights and responsibilities of being the father of that child.
